Assessing and Quantifying Hepatic Steatosis with Second Harmonic Generation and Two-photon Excited Fluorescence
A study by the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) demonstrates that Second Harmonic Generation (SHG) and Two-photon Excitation Fluorescence (TPEF) by HistoIndex can be used to precisely quantify Hepatic Steatosis (HS) in a continuous-scale measurement, and also detect subtle interval nuances that may not be very apparent with the use of traditional approaches. This novel SHG/TPEF method is very relevant as a crucial tool in the current clinical trials interrogating the effectiveness of therapeutic agents for NAFLD and NASH.
